The UNP+ project is striving to make urban nature the norm, not the exception. By working with cities, we aim to halt biodiversity loss and enhance urban ecosystems, fostering healthier and more resilient communities. A primary goal for the UNP+ project is the development of a Capacity Building Programme (CBP) that facilitates urban nature plans in cities across Europe.

The CBP is a living programme developing over the life of the UNP+ project. It includes three key parts – a micro course (with a diversity of thematic guides under development), interactive webinars, and a collection of short briefs. There are over 35 short briefs available in the CBP and in 2026, there are plans for a diversity of webinars on key topics for advancing urban nature plans.

In July 2025, the CBP organised its inaugural webinar on reflexive monitoring for urban nature plans. Reflexive monitoring is an evaluation method that offers insight into the progress of projects in real time, supporting urban practitioners and professionals to evaluate day-to-day activities. Over 70 participants from 32 countries attended the webinar. Some testimonials include:

“The webinar offered practical insight into how reflexive monitoring can strengthen day-to-day urban nature planning.” Baláz Kozak

“The session clearly demonstrated how reflexive monitoring can enhance learning across teams and support more adaptive, evidence-based decision-making in urban nature planning.” Apostolos Malamakis

Tentative dates for upcoming webinars in 2026 include:

  • 29 April – Lunch 'n Learn Webinar on Financing Mechanisms for Urban Nature: Register here!
  • 22 June – webinar on Exploring Assessment and Monitoring for Urban Nature Plans
  • Fall, date to be determined soon – webinar on Justice through Urban Nature Plans

Previous webinars in 2026:

  • 25 February – Understanding and Applying the Urban Nature Plans+ Framework

Exploring the Urban Nature Plans+ Framework and how cities can use it to design and deliver effective and ambitious Urban Nature Plans. This webinar introduced the 10-step approach, key enabling structures, and real examples from UNP+ cities to help participants move from ambition to implementation.

  • 3 March – Leveraging multifunctional urban nature through spatial planning: the UNPplus Spatial Planning Scheme

Exploring the critical role that spatial planning and management instruments can play for climate resilience and nature positive development particularly under the Nature Restoration Regulation and in view of the New European Climate Adaptation Plan.

The UNP+ project brings together cities and partners from across Europe to advance Urban Nature Plans. Along with over 35 short briefs in our Capacity Building Programme, our webinars provide valuable lessons and examples with cities.  Don't miss out!
